aera™500 and aera™550®. TOUCH SCREEN
AVIATION PORTABLE.
With Garmin's new aera™ series portables, fingertip
navigation is now a reality. On screen menus that simplify
the pilot interface and eliminates knobs and buttons.
The automotive mode and pre loaded street maps for
New Zealand + Australia lets you think in terms of door-to-door
guidance, not just runway-to-runway.
The graphical Terrain page offers both overhead and
vertical profile views of the topography you’re
flying over.
The IFR map mode lets you display and navigate on high
or low enroute airways. You can also pull up MEAs (Minimum
Enroute Altitudes) and distances between intersections
by touching the airway on the map.
You can use the aera™ to load
frequencies into your Garmin SL40 or Icom IC-A210 VHF
Comm.

Garmin
GPSMAP695®. See the Big Picture.
The GPSMAP 695’s bright 7-inch
diagonal high-definition sunlight-readable display makes
detailed mapping easy to see day or night — you
can even view an entire approach plate on the large-format
display. For easy operation, the bezel around the screen
includes soft keys and a joystick control. And with a
fast 5 Hz GPS update rate, the 695 renders graphics and
presents flight data smoothly and continuously. No
Chart? No Problem.
With the addition of Garmin FliteCharts®¹ and IFR map
mode, the GPSMAP 695 has Class 1/Class
2 electronic flight bag (EFB) capability, reducing the
use of paper charts in the cockpit. (Note: Flitecharts®
are not available for New Zealand - Yet).
Enhance Situational Awareness
The GPSMAP 695 features a high-resolution
terrain page showing hazards relative to your altitude
and a vertical profile of terrain along your route of
flight. It comes with a built-in Jeppesen database,
and an Americas, Atlantic or Pacific terrain database.
It also includes an obstacles database for the U.S.
or Europe (Note: Not New Zealand). Using this information,
the 695 displays your flight route over contour terrain
mapping. With information from the terrain and obstacles
databases, the 695 monitors your current position in
relation to surrounding terrain to provide alerts. You
can even customize your own minimum clearance levels
to receive terrain cautions. The 695 also comes with
a realistic “view from space” satellite
imagery basemap.

Garmin GPSMAP® 495
Finally, an upgrade for the GPSMAP296 is available for the
pacific region. The 495 has all the features of the 296 but
with the added benefit of the update rate and interface options
of the 496.
Add Traffic Awareness
Interface the 495 with a Zaon XRX PCAS (Portable
Collision Avoidance System) to get near real time traffic
data overlaid on the map page.
Enjoy Faster Update Rate
For added realism and safety, the 495 updates map data and
"Panel" page instruments at 5 Hz, a significantly
faster update rate that gives you a smoother, near “real-time”
presentation of your aircraft’s analog indicators, such
as the HSI and turn coordinator
Receive Altitude-Sensitive Alerts
When in the air, Garmin’s Smart Airspace feature makes
it easier than ever to identify what airspace lies ahead.
Smart Airspace automatically highlights airspace close to
your current altitude and de-emphasizes airspace well above
or below your altitude, which gives you increased situational
awareness.
Enhance Situational Awareness
GPSMAP 495 features a built-in Jeppesen database and a Pacific
terrain database. It also includes an obstacles database for
the U.S. or Europe [Obstacle Database does not cover NZ].
Using this information, the 495 displays your flight route
over contour terrain mapping. The higher-resolution terrain
database includes over ten times as much data as the 296’s
for even more visual reference. With information from the
terrain and obstacles databases, the 495 monitors your current
position in relation to surrounding terrain to provide alerts.
Even customize your own minimum clearance levels to receive
terrain cautions. The addition of private airports and heliports
to the database provides even more navigation and emergency
"nearest" options. [Private NZ airports and Helipads
may not be in the database]. Add a Garmin Mode S transponder,
and the 495 will display TIS traffic alerts that identify
surrounding air traffic [Note: TIS service is currently not
available in NZ].
Navigate by Air, Land or Sea
Simply press a button to switch GPSMAP 495 to automotive or
marine mode. The 495 comes with a built-in routable basemap.
Add optional MapSource® City Navigator® detailed street
maps to receive voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions to
addresses and points of interest. For a great day on the water,
customize the waterproof 495 with optional BlueChart®
marine cartography.

Garmin GPSMAP® 296
builds on the tradition of Garmin aviation handhelds like
the GPSMAP 196 and GPSMAP 295. New features like terrain cautions
and alerts, sectional chart-like topographic data, a built-in
obstacle database of the U.S., and a transparent navigation
arc view for course, speed, and distance information lead
the list of advances. The GPSMAP 296 also features USB data
transfer, faster processing speed, and a rechargeable lithium-ion
battery pack. Press a button, and you have your choice of
the unit's automotive or marine modes.
An automatic logbook also calculates your flight time and
automatically records departure and arrival locations. When
used with Garmin's free logbook software—FlightBook—this feature
makes light work of maintaining your logbook. Your flight
information will be stored in the unit and can be downloaded
to this exclusive Flightbook software at any time.
Garmin delivers terrain awareness in an intuitive Terrain
mode on the GPSMAP 296. The unit combines GPS position, GPS
altitude and topographical mapping to give pilots a vivid
depiction of potential terrain hazards.
The GPSMAP 296 can be panel mounted using an aftermarket panel
mount adaptor which holds the GPS securely in the panel and
yet allows easy removal when required.
Pilots gain terrain awareness in a number of ways:
- Terrain and obstacle information
- By using visual cues and tone alerts, pilots can be aware
of potentially dangerous terrain or obstacle conflicts along
the current flight path. The unit also offers a configurable
look-ahead warning function which gives the pilot additional
time to make critical decisions.
- Configurable buffer zones
- The pilot can set the minimum limits to receive terrain
cautions. The unit then presents potential hazards in yellow
(to indicate ground proximity of 500-1000 feet) and red
(to indicate ground proximity of 100 feet or less). Obstacles
database
- Pop-up alerts
- Terrain proximity cautions and alerts pop up as digital
thumbnail images in the lower left-hand corner of any page
whenever a potential hazard conflict looms ahead.
